The transmitfax API |
|
The transmitfax API (see the transmitfax command in Appendix A of the Reference Manual) was the first high-level command-line interface to the fax server.
As the product evolved and the Client/Server product was developed it became obvious that this API had a number of deficiencies. To address this a new high-level API was introduced in Release 2.0 called "submitfax". Not only does interface address the deficiencies in the original transmitfax API it enabled the ELS/PLUS product line and the Client/Server product line to support a common API. Since the submitfax API performs everything the transmitfax API does (and more) there is no need to continue supporting the transmitfax API except for the needs of customers who have written software that interfaces to this API. In the release notes to the 2.1 product (released in 1997) it was mentioned that this API would disappear sometime in the future. This warning has been repeated in every update since.
The transmitfax API will be continued in the 2.4 release (expected 1Q2001) but will almost certainly have to disappear in the subsequent release.
